VHT Brake Caliper & Rotor Paint

How To Apply:

Prepare Surface: Clean surface thoroughly. Remove grease, oil, loose paint, rust, scale, etc. using a high grade cleaner such as VHT's Brake Cleaner (included in our DIY kit). Scuff any rusted or glossy surface with either a wire brush (included in our DIY kit) or steel wool. Cleanse again with high grade cleaner and let dry.

Mask Area and Wipe Surface Clean: To protect from over spray, mask and cover the wheel well, surrounding floor and any surfaces that will not be painted. Be sure to tape off lugs. Wipe down area to be painted with a clean soft cloth or tack rag.

Apply to Surface: Shake can for a full one minute after the agitator ball begins to rattle. Repeat for 10 seconds after each 5 minutes of use. Spray a wet, thin, even coat approximately 8 to 10 inches away from surface. Repeat within 10 to 15 minutes until the desired color is achieved. For maximum gloss and protection, spray a final coat holding the can 5 to 6 inches away from the surface being careful to avoid running. Experiment with the distance of the can to achieve the finish you desire. Over spray can be removed with Mineral Spirits immediately after spraying and while surface is still wet.

Curing: Paint will dry to the touch in 15 to 25 minutes depending on humidity. It will air dry overnight. For increased chemical and heat resistance, apply heat within 7 days. For ideal results, VHT Brake Caliper, Drum & Rotor Coatings are best cured in an oven by baking at 350°F for 30 minutes. This will provide a durable, solvent resistant finish. The inherent heat of operating the vehicle may also accomplish curing. Use caution not to create excessive brake dust while coating is still wet. All curing must be done slowly. Until coating is cured, product is not solvent resistant.

Tips: Apply the coating only when the aerosol can, surface to be painted, and the air temperatures are between 65º F and 95º F. Do not use in high humidity unless it will be oven cured. Test spray a small area before starting the project. Apply multiple coats in less than 1 hour or after 24 hours. Coats sprayed between this period may wrinkle, not adhere or not dry properly. Spraying front and rear brake systems will require 2 to 3 cans of VHT Brake Drum, Caliper & Rotor Paint.
